ALDI sponsors British Triathlon Mixed Relay Cup in Nottingham

Today (Tuesday 25 July 2017), British Triathlon has announced ALDI as the Official Supermarket Sponsor of the British Triathlon Mixed Relay Cup taking place in Nottingham on 2 September 2017.

Britain’s best value for money supermarket has chosen to sponsor the inaugural hosting of the event following their successful relationship with last month’s Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds, where ALDI’s Team GB ambassadors and two of Great Britain’s sporting heroes, Alistair and Jonny Brownlee delivered a one-two finish in front of a home crowd.

The triathlon mixed relay is one of the most exciting innovations in the sport’s history and having recently been confirmed for the Tokyo 2020 sport programme, the event in Nottingham epitomises Aldi’s values of supporting the ‘Best of British’ who will go head to head with some of the best international stars.

ALDI is supporting an event that will see teams of two men and two women, each completing a mini triathlon before tagging their teammate to do the same. The fast and furious racing style has seen the ITU World Championship race in Hamburg attract up to 250,000 spectators in the past, and the hope is that triathlon fans from the East Midlands and further afield will line the streets to capture the action later this year.

Jack Buckner, Chief Executive of British Triathlon, said: “The Nottingham event is another showpiece for British Triathlon and adds to a fantastic summer of triathlon following the ITU World Triathlon Series event in Leeds last month. It’s an innovative format of our sport and to have ALDI on board is a superb brand to be working with in September. They are a household name that prides itself on supporting access to fresh, healthy, affordable food and I am delighted they have chosen triathlon once again to build on their Team GB sponsorship during Rio.”

Adam Zavalis, Marketing Director at Aldi added “This important partnership complements our Team GB Get Set to Eat Fresh commitment where we are aiming to educate 1.2 million children about the benefits of healthy eating and reinforces our position as Britain’s fresh produce supermarket of the year for 3 years running.”
