A Family-run, independent coffee shop has opened in one of West Bridgford and Nottingham’s most picturesque locations, offering a spot to sit and drink in delicious coffee and beautiful views of the River Trent.
Bean by the River opened its doors to customers on the Embankment on Friday, 20 May, with a menu packed full of homemade cakes, pastries and hot and cold drinks.
Owners of the business Shiraz Nawaz and his business partner Giac Romano have decided to take the step on to their next adventure. Shiraz will be taking the reins supported by Giac, who also runs Romano’s catering nationwide.
We went along to meet Shiraz and have a look at his new venture. With quality coffee from Nottingham’s Romanos – all Fairtrade, probably the only all Fairtrade coffee shop in Nottingham and the cakes are all home-made. The interior has a classy and luxurious feel to it with Chesterfield leather sofas, and high bars along the side with comfortable chairs.
Shiraz had always wanted to open a coffee shop in Newark and had plans to do so a few years ago, however this fell through when his wife Lisa became pregnant with their little girl, Sofia. But when Sofia entered her toddler years, Shiraz decided that now was the time to take the plunge.
The property on the Embankment needed extensive renovations to be ready for its new use, with a brand new kitchen, interiors, flooring and décor required.
Shiraz said: “Bean by the River is open seven days a week, come rain or shine, ready to serve everybody and anybody that step in to our coffee shop.
“Both indoor and outdoor seating will be available, with around twenty seats inside and ten outside.”
Shiraz’s wife Lisa added: “Even though I run a cleaning company and am busy most days of the week, the time I do get off will be spent down at the shop helping anywhere that I can. We can’t wait to welcome our first customers to Bean by the River.”
Shiraz has also stocked the café with local The Nice Lolly Company ice lollies. The Nice Lolly Company based in Nottingham can often be seen at West Bridgford park events in the summer time.
The new premises will also create new temporary jobs during peak times. Families welcome and high-chairs are available too.
