A Colwick man who stabbed another man five times in the back in Nottingham city centre, has begun a seven year prison sentence.
Nthambi Mkanda, of Balmoral Road in Colwick, was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday (11 August 2017) following a five day trial having previously pleaded not guilty to offences of wounding with intent.
The court heard how the 19-year-old was with friends when they became involved in an altercation with another group of men at around 2.40am on Saturday 4 March 2017. Mkanda chased the victim along King Street and onto Trinity Square stabbing him five times in the back.
The victim was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre where he required stitches.
Officers launched an investigation and Mkanda was identified through CCTV and subsequently arrested.
Detective Constable James Hirst said: “We are pleased with the court outcome and hope it sends the message out that it is not acceptable to carry a knife or any form of weapon in Nottinghamshire.”
