Delays to services after person hit by a train

A person has been hit by a train between Peterborough and Ely on the Liverpool, Nottingham, Norwich route. 

British Transport Police said:

‘We were called to Whittlesea station at 9.54am today to reports that a person had been struck by a train.

‘Officers and the ambulance service attended.

‘Sadly the person died at the scene.

‘Officers are working to identify them and inform their next of kin.

‘The incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner. ‘

East Midlands Trains said:

‘This is disrupting our trains on Liverpool South Parkway / Nottingham / Norwich route.’

‘Network Rail and the British Transport Police have reopened the line between Peterborough and Ely.

‘Some of our trains on the route will be cancelled or delayed by up to 120 minutes.

‘Our normal train service is expected to resume on the affected route at around 15:00.

‘Your East Midlands Trains ticket will be accepted on Virgin Trains East Coast, CrossCountry and Greater Anglia on any reasonable route.

‘If you hold an Advance Ticket for a specified train, you may use an alternative service than the one stated on your ticket. ‘
