Nottingham Hellfire Harlots have had an amazing start to the year, becoming the 8th best team in the UK and signing a sponsorship deal with QUAD Roller Skate Shop.
They’re looking to continue that success at their first home bout of the year on 1st July at Lee Westwood Sports Centre.
This bout is not to be missed as you will see Harlots taking on London Roller Girls Batter C Power. For the first time ever, their local friends Nottingham Roller Girls will also be playing, against Hulls Angels Roller Dames.
“We love playing locally; the home crowd are always so amazing”, says Tara McCarthy (AKA Taz-Mania De’ville), one of Harlots’ founding members. “Lots of people think that roller derby is women just skating around with tongue-in-cheek derby names, but it’s so much more than that.
This bout is a brilliant opportunity for both of Nottingham’s teams to demonstrate our professionalism and raise awareness about roller derby”.
This fast-paced, contact sport on wheels is not for the faint-hearted. Two teams of five take to the track at a time, with four blockers and one jammer each. The aim of the game is for the jammers to break out of the pack, then collecting points for every blocker they pass on the opposing team during their ‘scoring trip’.
“It has been a really exciting year for our league already, but we’re only just getting warmed up”, comments Jo Scott (AKA Joannasaurus), A Team Captain. “We have already rocketed +161 WFTDA ranking points in six months, smashing our +100 point target. In September we are hosting our first ever European Roller Derby Tournament, so we are continuing to establish ourselves as a formidable league, both in the UK and abroad.”
The day promises to be filled with exhilarating sports, cake and fun for all the family. Tickets for the event are available online now or on the door: https://hellfireharlots.yapsody.com/event/index/104166
