The road reopened at around 3 am this morning after closing late afternoon on Tuesday.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service teams at East Leake Station have shared mages after attending the incident on the A46 near Willoughby-on-the-Wolds yesterday afternoon.

A spokesperson said:

‘Yesterday we were called to Loughborough to assist an alarm activation and upon being released we were mobilised to a lorry fire on the A46 with a suspended trapped driver.

‘Access to the A46 was already restricted due to planned roadworks.

‘The driver was rescued by the local farmer and was out when we arrived.

‘Unfortunately the lorry was on fire which had also spread to the middle of the carriageway and this coupled with the large smoke plume and was spreading across both carriageways – this meant a joint decision to shut the road in both directions to tackle the fire.

‘We thank all this who patiently waited for us to ferry sufficient water to deal with the fire.’
