The Leader of Nottingham City Council strongly condemned last night’s terror attack in London and urged people to remain united within Nottingham’s communities.

City Council Leader, Councillor Jon Collins, said: “The horrific attack last night was an act of terrorism which deliberately targeted the Muslim community.  Our thoughts are with the family and friends of all those affected.

“We cannot and will not let crimes of hate like the attack last night and elsewhere in London and in Manchester over the last few weeks divide our communities. Over the weekend, communities across Nottingham and the country as a whole came together to remember the MP Jo Cox, murdered in a hate crime just a year ago. At this time, it is more important than ever that we share her message that we have more in common than divides us.

“We will be liaising with the Police about what urgent steps can be taken to provide reassurance to local communities, particularly security around mosques.”

Flags will be lowered as a mark of respect for those who lost their lives in the attack.
