A children’s nursery in Nottinghamshire has been placed in the top 15% of nurseries in England and Wales after Ofsted declared it to be ‘Outstanding in All Areas’ following its latest inspection.
Children 1st @ Plumtree, has been judged to provide outstanding provision in all areas of its work following a recent inspection by Ofsted.
This is a wonderful achievement for the nursery, which is owned and managed by Children 1st Day Nurseries.
Outstanding Outcomes for Children
‘Extremely happy and settled,’ ‘kind and thoughtful,’ with ‘outstanding behaviour’ are the words used in the report to describe the children at Children 1st @ Plumtree. Little wonder staff and parents are so proud of this report which moved the nursery from its previous rating of good to the top accolade of outstanding.
Not only do the children make excellent progress in their learning, strategies to promote their all-round development are praised, with special mention of their physical skills which benefit from daily outdoor opportunities to ‘climb and clamber on large equipment.’
Even the active babies received a mention with their well-planned baby areas providing maximum space to ‘move, roll, stretch and explore in safety, both indoors and out.’
The inspector found the quality of teaching and learning to be outstanding, with the older children ‘superbly prepared for school.’ This readiness for school was shaped by planned opportunities for the children to develop their social and independence skills and development of early reading and mathematical knowledge. Staff were praised in the report for the provision of the stimulating and exciting learning environment which the children were able to explore independently.
Inspirational Management Team
With expectations described as ‘uncompromising’ the inspector was impressed by the quality of leadership at Plumtree. Describing nursery manager Louise Bucknall as ‘dynamic,’ the report praises the very effective staff team who ‘share the same vision and drive for excellence.’ A delighted Louise is pleased that the report highlighted the impact of continuing professional development on standards.
“Our well-qualified staff take their own ongoing professional development very seriously. Everyone here is keen to keep improving their practice. We meet regularly to discuss our work and observe and mentor each other. We’re very positive about sharing good practice and our ‘can do’ ethos underpins everything we do.”
Effective Partnerships with Parents and The Community
Keen to ensure high quality provision at Plumtree, Louise has developed ‘exceedingly strong’ relationships with parents. The report notes that the excellent strategies in place means that parents are fully involved in their children’s learning. Furthermore, partnerships with local schools and businesses such as the village farm, enhance provision and opportunities for learning.
Reflecting on this outstanding report Margaret Mason OBE, founder and Chief Executive of Children 1st Day Nurseries said:
“The report is a pleasure to read and the accolade of outstanding is well deserved by staff, children and parents. I’m particularly pleased by the inspector’s comments about the effectiveness of partnerships with the parents and the community and the impact of these relationships on the quality of learning both at nursery and beyond. Louise’s efforts to place the nursery at the heart of the community are certainly paying dividends!”
“Thank-you to everyone who has worked so hard, with such dedication to achieve this outstanding report. The fact that the nursery has improved on its previous Ofsted rating is testament to the great commitment shown by all.”
