Promising winger Josh Skelcey has committed himself to Nottingham Rugby for the 2017/18 season, signing a new one-year deal at The Bay.
The 22 year-old has been sidelined throughout the whole of this season, after picking up a serious injury in the Green & Whites’ friendly at London Irish back in August, and with the former England Under-18 international scoring the opening try in the previous pre-season friendly fixture against Newcastle Falcons, head coach Ian Costello was resigned to losing one of his most dangerous attacking threats for the current campaign.
Now almost back to full fitness, Skelcey has his sights set on next season and looks set to build on his four tries in ten 2015/16 league and cup appearances, alongside his memorable try in Nottingham’s historic pre-season friendly against Tonga, at The Bay, back in August 2015.
Speaking about Skelcey’s impending return and what the winger’s availability brings to the team, Ian Costello said:
“It will be like another new signing for next season and I’m delighted that he’s committed his future here for another year. I think that Josh will be one of the hungriest, most exciting players in the Championship next season.
“Before this season started, looking back at videos, Josh would have stood out as one of the most exciting backs playing for Nottingham. He has genuine ability to beat players one on one and throughout pre-season he showed that exciting edge to his game but was also developing a much more rounded, balanced dimension to his game, in terms of his ball-in-hand, distribution and his back-three play. I’m looking forward to Josh picking up where he left off.”
Skelcey is the fifteenth name to be confirmed for Nottingham’s squad for next season, with another new signing to be announced tomorrow at 10am.
