The South Wolds Academy and Sixth Form’s Music Department’s recent composition project collaboration with Sinfonia Viva, Jack Ross and Anna Meredith came to a wonderful conclusion on Thursday, Dec 8.

On the final day of the project, each of the talented composers spent half an hour explaining and rehearsing their pieces with the quartet before having their work professionally recorded.

The students had worked hard to meet their deadlines and each of them can be very proud of the work they produced. In the evening, friends and relatives were invited along to hear the premieres performed along with a piece, ‘Honeyed Words’, by Anna Meredith herself.

It was a beautiful evening made the more enjoyable by hearing our students explain their thinking before each performance. We heard pieces entitled ‘Requiem for a fallen Hero’, ‘Recherche’, and ‘En Fuego’ amongst others.

screen-shot-2016-12-16-at-10-54-51We look forward to more opportunities for our Music students just like this in the future! We will also be releasing CDs of our student’s work in the New Year – don’t hesitate to let us know if you’d like a copy!

With many thanks to the Nottinghamshire Music Hub, Inspire, Sinfonia Viva, Jack Ross and Anna Meredith.
