This Sunday, Highfield’s Hockey Centre will be hosting the Nottinghamshire Women’s Shield Final where home club Beeston HC will take on Worksop HC for the coveted title.
The road to the final has seen 3 pre-matches fiercely fought by a hybrid yet harmonised squad of players for Beeston Ladies’ 6s and 7 teams, valiantly lead by captain Jo Illingworth and coached by Sue Moore.
The last time the home teams saw silverware was during the 2013-2014 season where the Beeston 6’s won their league and regained their place in division 2, so emotions will undoubtedly be running high this weekend.
In readiness Beeston are making their final preparations this week for what is certain to be an exciting finale to their 2016/17 season of hockey.
In the run up, some dedicated supporters will have experienced great highs from watching the goal heavy 6-0 win against Nottingham Trent University on a freezing December morning and high tension from nail biting extra minutes against Newark where the goal keeping prowess of Hannah Cliffe helped put Beeston in the best position to take their 2-1 victory on penalty flicks.
Coach Sue Moore commented on the how well the squad has come together and benefited from the mixed skills sets each of the players involved bring to the game, “the shield squad consists of both junior, and more senior players and it’s been great to see them all work so well together encouraging each other to play their best but also remembering to have fun!”.
Captain Illingworth added, “after reaching the final last year and all the hard work we have put in this season, it would be amazing to take home the trophy – and with it being played on home turf it would be brilliant to get as many home supporters down to give us that extra boost”.
Push back is at 10am on the sand pitch, there will be food and drink available on site with any and all support welcome.
