East Midlands Trains has announced changes its Sunday timetable between Nottingham and Lincoln and Nottingham Grantham.
A new timetable will be launched on Sunday 21 May offering more trains between Lincoln and Nottingham, and Grantham and Nottingham.
There will be extra train services every Sunday offering an hourly service for most of the day. On the Lincoln to Nottingham route, there will be an extra seven services throughout the day, with the first train leaving at 08.47, instead of the current first train at 15.08. Six additional services a day will also run from Nottingham to Lincoln, with the first one leaving at 09.30, instead of the current first train at 15.29. In addition, there will be two extra trains each way every Sunday between Nottingham and Grantham, with all services calling at Bingham.
Lawrence Bowman, Commercial Director for East Midlands Trains, said: “The new and improved services will have a huge impact for customers across the region and hopefully open up many more exciting travel opportunities.
“We’ve already made big changes on the route in recent years including a revamped timetable on weekdays, and improvements to Saturday services.
“These new developments will help Lincoln position itself as a regional destination with excellent shopping and cultural attractions that is connected by fast and frequent Sunday services.
“All of this has been made possible by Network Rail’s investment in the re-signalling works east of Nottingham so we are very pleased that these have been completed and we can deliver these significant timetable improvements.”
Ruth Carver, Director of the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), said: “Improved transport links are vital for economic growth and a top priority for the Greater Lincolnshire LEP, so we welcome the introduction of this improved timetable.
Cllr Richard Davies, Executive Member for Highways at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “These extra trains are good news for Lincoln. The city has been attracting more and more visitors since the new-look Lincoln Castle opened in 2015, and with the Domesday Book set to be here later this year, I suspect that trend will continue.
“These improved services will give visitors an alternative to using their car, which will help avoid congestion on the roads.”
All of the new services from Nottingham to Lincoln will stop at Lowdham and Newark Castle, and there will also be extra stops at Hykeham, Swinderby, Collingham, Newark North Gate, Rolleston, Fiskerton, Bleasby, Thurgarton, Burton Joyce, and Carlton
