West Bridgford canoeist is the British Open Junior Champion 2017

West Bridgford canoe slalom athlete Ewan Vernon paddled his way to success at the recent British Open Championships held at the London Olympic White Water Course, Lee Valley.

A clean run and time of 105.92 earned him the top Junior spot and title British Open Junior Champion 2017 whilst Olympic Gold medallist Joe Clarke was victorious in taking the Senior British Open title.

Ewan, former sixth form pupil at Rushcliffe School has been part of the British Canoeing talent programme since 2011 and is now ranked number 1 in the UK J18 league and 9th in the premier division for K1 men.

His goal is firmly set on working towards GB U23 selection whilst furthering his studies at the University of Nottingham where he enrols this week so that he can stay local for his training schedule at Holme Pierrepont.
