West Bridgford Dramatic Society present ‘Under the Stars’

To kick the new year off, we have a ‘look behind the scenes’ comedy, where Greek Tragedy meets English Comedy.

Stella and Regina are understudies in a West End production of a classical tragedy. Stella is a Method actress, passionate about the magic of theatre, whilst Regina is her cynically practical opposite, displaying an acerbic wit and resigned to knitting and shopping in Sainsbury’s.

When their double-crossing director brings in The Known Actress as the understudy for one of the stars, the two rivals unite in their resentment.

Sarah Banks and Lynn Burges take on the two lead roles of Stella and Regina – two excellent actresses who put heart and soul into the parts. Director Penny Lewin says “I chose this play because of the great characters, but I’ve discovered during rehearsals that there is a lot of comedy – not slap stick, but the comedy of strong characters bouncing off each other”.

Rehearsals are underway, the set is up, and the cast and crew are discovering both the comedy and pathos in the script.
