Neil Fowkes has named Tom Holmes as Nottingham Rugby’s club captain for the 2018/19 season.
The experienced lock, who has spent the past three years at the Green and Whites, is delighted to have been given the responsibility.
“It is an incredible honour to be named as club captain, especially from someone like Neil Fowkes who has been a massive part of this club for so long,” said Tom, who was informed he had been selected as club captain in the build-up to Nottingham Rugby’s friendly against Newcastle Falcons.
He added: “a lot of changes have happened both on and off the pitch since I joined the Green and Whites and I am pleased to see us in a strong position heading into the new season.
“We have had two very good results over the past couple of weeks against Falcons and Rotherham Titans and I think we can say that we’ve performed well, particularly against a very strong Falcons side.
“However, all the players know that Bedford on Sunday 2 September is what we are aiming for.
“That fixture will be a true measure of where we are at and which will be invaluable for the season ahead.
“This is such a tough league and I feel that we are a strong team within it. The lads have worked so hard so far and it is a pleasure to be their captain.”
Tom and the rest of the team are gearing up to face last year’s Greene King IPA Championship winners Bristol Bears on Friday, and they expect the promotion-winners to be a tough test ahead of their first game against Bedford Blues on Sunday 2 September.
