A man strangled a woman and then slammed her head into a kitchen wall after an argument.
Julian Mead assaulted the woman in her home, in the Whitemoor area of Nottingham, on 18 October 2021.
She tried to push the 38-year-old away after he had put his arm around her neck and applied pressure.
After releasing her neck he grabbed the back of her head with his other arm and forced it into the wall with force, causing her pain to her head and neck, before she fell to the floor.
Mead, of Hanslope Crescent, Bilborough, went on to plead guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was sentenced to 12 months in prison when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday (25 April 2022).
He was also made subject of a three-year restraining order.
Police Constable Nicholas Jamieson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “I hope that now Mead has been locked up for this brutal assault, this woman is now able to move on with her life.
“She deserves a huge amount of credit for reporting this incident to police and I hope her brave actions encourage anyone else who has been affected by domestic abuse to contact us, either directly or indirectly, so that we can protect them.
“As a force we treat domestic abuse extremely seriously and will respond swiftly and robustly to reports made to us.
“I want to reassure anyone who is suffering domestic abuse that Nottinghamshire Police is here to help and support you – you are not alone.
“If you are in danger, please call 999 and we will come to your aid.”
Nottinghamshire Police consistently work with partners to tackle this issue including raising awareness of confidential support services that remain available to those experiencing domestic abuse during these difficult times.
This work has included raising awareness of the Silent Solution police system, which people can use to report an emergency when it’s not safe for them to speak, and supporting the #YouAreNotAlone campaign.
The force’s work around domestic abuse has also included social media and supermarket poster campaigns, increased enforcement on bail conditions, increased enforcement on domestic violence protection orders, stalking protection orders and increased focus on serial perpetrators.
