Detective Sergeant Robert Palethorpe, of Nottinghamshire Police’s city burglary team, said:

“We are committed to tackling burglary and ensuring people feel safe in their homes.

“After this incident we swiftly arrested a suspect and I would like to thank the officers involved for their rapid response.

“We understand how devastating burglaries and thefts can be. That’s why we will always take these kind of reports extremely seriously.”

While Nottinghamshire Police has two proactive burglary teams which are committed to preventing and reducing this type of crime, DS Palethorpe urged people to follow a few simple steps to mitigate the risk of falling victim to burglary.

He said: “More than 40 per cent of burglaries happen due to unsecure properties such as unlocked front doors and open or badly secured windows.

“Despite our continuing drive to prevent burglaries and ensure our communities are as crime-free as possible, we still need residents to remain vigilant and make sure they take the necessary steps to protect themselves and avoid becoming victims.

“We’d urge people to check their door and window locks are working correctly and remember to make sure they keep their doors and windows locked at all times, even when they are at home and especially if their rooms are on the ground floor.”
