15 parks in Nottingham awarded Green Flag accreditation

Nottingham City Council is celebrating after receiving 15 Green Flag Awards, the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

 

Nottingham’s parks and green spaces play a vital role for people as a place to relax, exercise and meet friends and family.

The news that the City Council has achieved the Green Flag Awards is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team, both staff and volunteers, that make the city’s parks and green spaces great places that everyone can enjoy.

Fifteen sites, including  the Arboretum, Colwick Country Park, Victoria Embankment, Highfields Park, Wollaton Park ,Woodthorpe Grange Park and two cemeteries – High Wood and Wilford Hill – have been accredited (full list below).

 

The Arboretum, the Forest Recreation Ground, Highfields Park and Wollaton Park have also maintained their Green Heritage Site Accreditation, supported by Historic England, for the management of their historic features.

 

Cllr Corall Jenkins, Portfolio Holder for Energy, Environment, Waste Services & Parks, said:

“We are delighted to have yet again been recognised by these Green Flag Awards this year from Keep Britain Tidy.

“This award recognises and highlights the dedication that goes into maintaining our parks and open spaces to such a high standard and the value we put on our parks and green spaces.

“We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors – they are such an important part of people’s lives and well-being in Nottingham.

 

“It’s fantastic that Nottingham City Council’s investment in parks has been recognised with these accolades and we will soon be announcing our Nottingham Green Space Strategy which means we can look forward to an even greener, healthier, happier Nottingham.

 

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
