16-year-old confronts police officers with a knife at disturbance

Police officers were confronted by a teenager with a knife after responding to reports of a disturbance.

They were called to an address in Winchester Street, Sherwood, shortly after 5am yesterday (Friday 19 August 2022).

One of the officers drew their taser for protection, but it wasn’t discharged, after a girl was seen holding a knife.

She was ordered to put the weapon down and was swiftly arrested. The knife was safely recovered.

Two officers were kicked during the arrest and suffered minor injuries.

A 16-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of affray and common assault of an emergency worker.

Detective Sergeant Rob Palethorpe said: “Our officers responded in exactly the right way – with calmness and professionalism – to defuse and resolve this incident.

“We treat reports of this nature extremely seriously and will not tolerate this sort of violent behaviour.

“Assaults on police officers and fellow emergency service workers who work tirelessly to serve and protect the public are completely unacceptable and anyone involved in this kind of disorder will be robustly dealt with.”
