Following a month-long trial the jury at Nottingham Crown Court found Maciejewski, of Shakespeare Street, Sinfin, guilty of one count of murder.

Today Maciejewski was handed a life sentence with a minimum of 22 years in prison.

Detective Chief Inspector Sally Blaiklock, said: “I would like first thank Karl’s family for their courage and dignity through this most tragic of cases.

“While no sentence can bring Karl back, I hope that today marks a turning point for them.

“I would also like to thank those in the local community who assisted officers in this case which brought Maciejewski to justice.”
