A 20-year-old man has today been jailed for a minimum of 22 years after being found guilty of the murder of a Derby father.

Karl Taylor was stabbed twice outside his home in Uttoxeter New Road at around 1.20pm on Sunday 8 December 2019, following a dispute about stolen alcohol.

Mateusz Maciejewski visited Mr Taylor’s flat after an argument earlier that day about alcohol that had allegedly been stolen from a nearby Premier Store.

When Mr Taylor opened the door, Maciejewski stabbed him twice leaving him with fatal serious injuries.

Forty-three-year-old Mr Taylor was rushed to the Queen’s Medical Centre but died on Boxing Day.

Following a month-long trial the jury at Nottingham Crown Court found Maciejewski, of Shakespeare Street, Sinfin, guilty of one count of murder.

Today Maciejewski was handed a life sentence with a minimum of 22 years in prison.

Detective Chief Inspector Sally Blaiklock, said: “I would like first thank Karl’s family for their courage and dignity through this most tragic of cases.

“While no sentence can bring Karl back, I hope that today marks a turning point for them.

“I would also like to thank those in the local community who assisted officers in this case which brought Maciejewski to justice.”
