Episode four of the brand-new series of 24 hours in A&E airs on our screens tonight 9pm on Monday 3 March on Channel 4.
The latest episode of the RTS award-winning documentary dives deep into the incredible journeys of those who have forged their own unique paths in life, how they have found new routes and how important it is to reflect and celebrate the challenges they have overcome.
Nottingham-born domestic cleaner, Deanna, shares her story and talks about finding her new route in life through her passion for cleaning, explaining how her job at the Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC), along with her colleague Olga, helps her through.
65-year-old Heather has been rushed into A&E with a suspected stroke. Stroke Nurse, Nonulia, and the specialist team have an interesting case on their hands as CT scans prove inconclusive despite Heather’s symptoms getting worse. We hear from her son Andrew, a paediatric nurse at Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust, who tells us about his mum’s stressful career, her worries for him as a child and the impact it had on her health.
In the children’s department, 13-year-old Alicia arrives in A&E with her mum Sarah and baby brother Raff after burning her hand on the kettle. Sarah talks about growing up in a religious family and how, after a support network turned their back on her, she pushed on and carved a new life for herself.
During September and October 2021, NUH welcomed cameras into the Emergency Department (ED) at QMC for the first series to be filmed outside of London. Cameras returned to QMC in 2023 to bring you another series of this inspiring documentary. QMC’s A&E department is one of the busiest in Europe, a place where stories of life, love and loss unfold every single day.
24 Hours in A&E, which is made by The Garden, part of ITV Studios, has become one of the most popular documentary series on Channel 4, having aired more than 300 episodes.
