Nottinghamshire County Council has approved funding for the internal fit-out of the new Thoresby Vale Primary School, ensuring its readiness for the September 2025 intake.
The council has committed up to £240,000 to furnish and equip the Edwinstowe school with furniture and ICT infrastructure. This funding comes from the authority’s School Places programme and will be granted to the Diverse Academies Trust (DAT), which has been selected to run the new school.
Thoresby Vale is a major housing-led development in Edwinstowe, incorporating 800 new residential units and 250,000 square feet of employment space. With this growth, the demand for school places has risen, necessitating the construction of the new 210-place primary school on Lidgett Lane. The school’s development is being delivered by Harworth Developments, the company behind the wider Thoresby Vale regeneration.
Construction is well underway, with the school scheduled to open its doors in September 2025. The development is being designed with a ‘forest school’ ethos, promoting outdoor learning and engagement with nature—an approach aimed at fostering creativity, resilience, and environmental awareness among pupils.
The funding, which will be subject to a formal Grant Funding Agreement between the council and DAT, is designated for essential furniture, fixtures, and ICT equipment. The decision aligns with the council’s statutory duty to provide adequate school places for local children.
