£280,000 cannabis factories discovered at two Nottingham properties

Police say they had reports from a utility company that they suspected alterations had been made to the electrics system at a property on Noel Street, Hyson Green.

Officers conducted a search of the property on Wednesday (12 November) where they uncovered nearly 100 cannabis plants spanning three rooms.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The team was then back out on the beat the next morning (13 November) and whilst out on patrol, they attended Radford Boulevard, Radford.

After gaining entry to the property, 181 cannabis plants were found in several rooms, and a 26-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of cultivating the Class B drug cannabis, and producing the Class B drug.

In each case, the plants were removed, and all growing equipment was dismantled.

Work was also carried out to fix the dangerous alterations to the electricity supply.

Sergeant Mark Southgate, of the Berridge team, said:

“These results are just a glimpse into the day-to-day work our neighbourhood policing teams conduct to make the streets of Nottingham safer.

“In these instances, our officers were able to take illegal drugs off the streets and protect neighbouring properties from harm.

“Cannabis grows have the potential to attract violent crime and antisocial behaviour.

“That’s why tackling drug related crime remains a key local priority, and also why it’s so important for members of the public to play their part and report their suspicions to us.

“If you suspect a property near you could be involved in this type of criminality – or have any information relating to the properties we attended last week – please call the police on 101. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
