Police recover £29,000 cash from man after foot chase in Nottingham

A large amount of cash was recovered in the incident as well as a quantity of cannabis.

Police recovered around £29,000 in cash after chasing and arresting a man who they spotted acting suspiciously.

Officers spotted a man acting suspiciously in Valley Road who appeared to be concealing an item under their jacket at around 4.30 pm yesterday (Sunday 21 June).

Police lost sight of the man as he walked up Reigate Road. When officers saw who they believed to be the same man in the passenger seat of a car, they walked up to the driver’s window and requested to speak with the occupants.

As police spoke with the driver, a man left the car via the passenger door and sprinted towards Nottingham Road. An officer followed him on foot and quickly detained him in Valley Road.

A large amount of cash was recovered in the incident as well as a quantity of cannabis.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of criminal property and possession of cannabis.

Detective Inspector Nikki Smith of Nottinghamshire Police said: “Our officers reacted incredibly quickly to make this arrest and our enquiries are now ongoing to establish the circumstances around the money that was recovered.

“Nottinghamshire Police is committed to seizing assets gained from criminal activity to ensure that crime does not pay. If the cash in this incident was gained as a result of crime or criminal activity, we will ensure that it is removed using the Proceeds of Crime Act.

“The man has been released under investigation we conduct our enquiries.”
