£3.4m Broad Marsh demolition funding approved to take down ‘part of concrete frame’ near Green Heart

The funding was discussed and approved on Monday, 16 December, at the EMCCA Board meeting in Mansfield.

The East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) has approved £9.5 million in funding for local projects that will support economic growth across the region.

The money comes from EMCCA’s Investment Fund, and the authority has worked with partners to identify projects that will have a significant impact, particularly in areas such as housing, jobs, manufacturing, clean energy creation, and greener spaces.

The funding was discussed and approved on Monday, 16 December, at the EMCCA Board meeting in Mansfield.

Broad Marsh (Nottingham)

Up to £3.392 million for Broad Marsh in Nottingham to carry out the demolition of part of the frame on the land near the newly opened Green Heart. This is a key step in progressing the Broad Marsh redevelopment, which will provide 1,600 homes and create just over 2,000 jobs, while offering a wide range of facilities, entertainment, and attractions upon completion.

Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward, said:

“These projects have been chosen for funding this year because their delivery will help boost the region’s economy. They will create jobs, help towards building homes, boost local businesses and manufacturing, and produce cleaner energy.

“We want to support and enable these projects to continue their work and help us achieve our vision for an East Midlands full of opportunities, with good jobs, quality education, and thriving local economies.

“We want to invest in vital projects. We can’t achieve the vision on our own; we need to work with partners across the region to invest in the right projects, projects that will make a real difference. This funding is just the start for the East Midlands.”

The East Midlands Combined County Authority has set out its initial strategic objectives for the region in its Strategic & Investment Framework, which outlines the vision for the region and ten key objectives for driving growth.

EMCCA has since commissioned the development of a long-term regional strategy – the East Midlands Inclusive Growth Strategy – which will guide how the East Midlands Combined County Authority invests a £4 billion funding pot to drive a thriving economy across Derby and Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

This strategy is being overseen by the Inclusive Growth Commission, which will outline a ten-year plan for improving economic, social, health, and environmental conditions in the region. Over the coming months, commissioners will engage with communities, businesses, councils, and major regional institutions to gather input on the region’s challenges and opportunities.
