30 homes evacuated after bomb disposal teams called to garden shed

Residents have been thanked for their understanding after a residential street in Newark had to be evacuated.

Around 30 people were asked to leave their homes in Tudor Close, Newark, on Friday 17 July after Nottinghamshire Police was alerted to possible dangerous items in a shed at a property on the street having been found by a metal detecting enthusiast.

A specialist bomb disposal unit attended and removed the items and all residents have now been able to return home.

Chief Inspector Liz Rogers of Nottinghamshire Police said: “I appreciate the disruption that this will have caused and would like to thank the residents for their understanding.

“We don’t take decisions to evacuate homes readily but have to consider the safety of the public as the highest priority when dealing with incidents such as this.”
