A 32-year-old man was jailed for 14 months for common assault, criminal damage and actual bodily harm today (10 July 2019) at Nottingham Crown Court.
William Ramsay of Cheltenham Street, Nottingham, assaulted his girlfriend in a nasty incident in June 2019.
Ramsay threw beer over his partner, spat on her, put his hands round her neck and strangled her. She was only saved when a boy contacted the police.
The woman had been through a sustained period of violence from her boyfriend.
Detective Inspector Kylie Westlake said: “We are pleased with today’s result and we hope that it gives the victim some comfort that Ramsay is locked-up.
“We’d like to praise the victim who has shown incredible courage throughout.
“We’d also like to thank and praise the boy who did the right thing and call the police to report the crime. We are in no doubt that those actions saved her life.
“The incidents were particularly unpleasant and violent. It was a very volatile relationship, where Ramsay was very controlling.
“We would urge anyone who suffers from any kind of domestic abuse to report this to police.”
