£500,000 cannabis factory found in abandoned Nottingham vet surgery

Police discovered a large cannabis factory in an abandoned vets surgery after responding to tip-offs from members of the public.

Officers found over 500 plants when they raided the building in Dunkirk Road, Dunkirk, Nottingham, yesterday (20 April) at around 8am.

The grow was spread across multiple rooms at the site.

Three suspects were located after officers from the City Central Operation Reacher team gained access to the roof space of the building.

The men, aged 28, 50 and 53, were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the cultivation of a Class B drug.

Detective Sergeant Nigel Malik, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“This was a large cannabis grow and I’d like to thank members of the public for sharing valuable information with us which allowed us to carry out this intelligence-led raid.

“Cannabis production is far from a victimless crime – it attracts antisocial behaviour, usually has links to wider criminality, and poses a dangerous fire risk too, due to electricity being bypassed.

“Vulnerable people are also often exploited to do the dirty work of organised gangs, expected to live in appalling and dangerous conditions as gardeners for the grow.”

One officer suffered minor injuries after falling from the roofspace of the building.

All the cannabis seized from the address will be destroyed and the equipment used to power the grow removed.
