£600,000 cannabis factory found in Nottingham

An investigation is underway after police discovered a large cannabis grow containing more than 600 plants.

Officers attended an address in High Church Street, New Basford, at around 5pm on Monday (17 February) and found a grow spread across four rooms.

Two suspects were located on the premises by the Radford Road neighbourhood team, who gained access to the property via an adjoining garage.

The men, aged 21 and 24, were arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis.

Detective Inspector Lisa Jones, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“This was a large cannabis grow, and it’s great to have taken these drugs out of circulation.

“Cannabis production is far from a victimless crime – it attracts antisocial behaviour, usually has links to wider criminality, and poses a dangerous fire risk too due to electricity being bypassed.

“Vulnerable people are also often exploited to do the dirty work of organised gangs, expected to live in appalling and dangerous conditions as gardeners for the grow.”

All the cannabis seized from the address will be destroyed, and the equipment used to power the grow will be removed.
