Plans for a 790-bedroom student accommodation development are set for approval on a derelict site in Nottingham.
Nottingham City Council has received an application for the 344 apartments for the Forest Mill site in Alfreton Road, Radford.
An office tower which once stood on the site was demolished in 2019.
The scheme by applicant Olympian Homes also includes a large gym, a retail unit and 19 family affordable homes.
The student development of town houses, apartments and studios would be spread over three buildings, with the tallest part being eight storeys high.
83 neighbours were consulted on the plans but the documents state that “only one letter of objection has been received”, which raised concerns over the lack of car parking in the area.
The plans are recommended for approval.
The development would stretch across Denman Street, Highhurst Street and Boden Street.
The development will be approved subject to a number of conditions, including a total financial contribution of £1.9m.
Of this, £987,890 would go towards open space near the site, £128,772 towards education, £745,824 towards off-site affordable housing and the provision of local employment and training worth £133,480.
There will also be a restriction on car ownership.
Council documents stated: “The scheme has been designed so that buildings respond to the varying scale of the existing area.
“The development steps down from the highest part of the site (the corner of Alfreton Road and Highurst Street) where the eight storey element is intended as the focal point of the development.
“Although this element would become the tallest structure in the area, it is felt to be appropriate for the site.
“It would landmark the site and retain a sense of the larger scale buildings that existed on the site historically.”
The city council’s planning committee will decide on the plans during its meeting on June 22.
