Officers swiftly made an arrest after an 80-year-old man was reported to have been repeatedly punched in the face.
Police were called to Burgass Road in St Ann’s at around 1.30pm yesterday afternoon when a man was thought to have been assaulted before his backpack was taken.
Nottinghamshire Police arrived at the scene and conducted enquiries into the incident and, with the help of witnesses, identified a man they would like to speak with as part of the investigation.
Minutes later, a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon after a knife was recovered following a search. It is not believed that a weapon was used in the incident.
The 80-year-old man did not require hospital treatment but is being supported by officers.
Inspector Mark Stanley, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officers reacted very quickly to arrest a suspect as part of their enquiries and we are pleased to be questioning a man in connection with this incident.
“This would be have been incredibly distressing for the victim and as a force, we are working closely with him to ensure that appropriate care is given to him.
“Violent crime has no place on our streets and we will take action against anyone who commits such an offence.
“I would ask that anyone who saw the incident or has any information that could aid police in their investigation contacts Nottinghamshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 359 of 13 October 2020.”
