Officers discovered over ninety people gathered in a property after reports that a party was ongoing.
On arrival at the property in Pilcher Gate, the Lace Market, officers reportedly saw a number of people running into the basement and once they were able to go inside, a number of people also tried to leave through a fire escape.
Officers also found people hiding in the laundry room and kitchen areas, as well as bathrooms and lifts. Police had received a number of calls concerned that a large gathering was taking place the property, and just before 12.40am on Saturday (10 April 2021) officers attended and dispersed the party.
The property is reported to have been booked out through an online service and a total of 85 people were issued with fixed penalty notices of £800 each.
Ahead of Covid-19 restrictions easing further on Monday (12 April 2021), police are reminding people of the continuing responsibility to abide by the restrictions.
Superintendent Paul Burrows, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We must remember that whilst there is light at the end of the tunnel and lockdown restrictions are easing slowly but surely, we must still familiarise ourselves and abide by the regulations that are in place.
“This is to protect the NHS, save lives and ensure that the hard work that is being done to vaccinate people and allow these restrictions to ease is irreversible.
“Sadly, a small minority of people chose to blatantly disregard the rules and put people at risk. Our officers continue to engage, explain and encourage people to follow the rules in the first instance, and enforce when it is necessary and appropriate.
“We need people to continue working with us to limit the spread of this deadly disease, as the vaccine continues to be rolled out, and as we’ve repeatedly shown we will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly ignore the current regulations.”
