A tip-off from a member of the public led to police discovering a cannabis grow inside a house.
Officers acted on the community intelligence by raiding the property in Gardendale Avenue, Clifton.
Nottinghamshire Police’s specialist City Centre Operation Reacher team found a total of 91 cannabis plants in one room at the address and arrested suspects after executing a Misuse of Drugs Act warrant.
Hieu-Van Duong, aged 37, Luc Nguyen, aged 35, and Van Duc Ungiyen, aged 43, were in the back garden chopping down overgrown weeds when officers arrived at around 10 am on 14 March 2023.
They were subsequently charged and appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Thursday (11 May 2023) after pleading guilty to cannabis production.
Duong and Nguyen, both of no fixed address, were jailed for 12 months.
Ungiyen, of Gardendale Avenue, Clifton, was handed a 14-month prison sentence.
Inspector Steve Dalby, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Cannabis cultivation and drug dealing are often linked to serious violence and antisocial behaviour and puts our wider communities at risk.
“The cultivation of cannabis also puts neighbouring families at risk because of the dangerous electrical wiring and bypassing we often find at illegal grows.
“We really value information provided by local people and will always act on it, where appropriate, to make our communities safer.
“As we’ve continued to show with our enforcement activity, we are listening to what people are telling us about the issues most of concern to them and we are taking positive action to address those concerns.
“Information from local people is key to our ongoing work so we would urge the public to keep reporting to us because the more information we get, the better intelligence picture we can build and the more robust action we can take.”
Anyone with information about cannabis production or dealing is urged to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
