Man arrested after allegedly threatening Nottingham cafe occupants with gun

A suspect was arrested in Manchester last night after allegedly threatening people inside a Nottinghamshire cafe with a gun just hours earlier, thanks to the quick work of detectives.

The man was arrested following the quick response of Nottinghamshire Police working with Greater Manchester Police. They ensured he was apprehended in Manchester at around 6.20 pm yesterday.

The force was contacted following a disturbance at a cafe in Beech Avenue, New Basford, just after midday yesterday where it was reported a man had pulled out a gun and threatened two men with it.

Nottinghamshire Police officers swiftly responded to the report and carried out searches.

Thanks to co-operation from Greater Manchester Police, a 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He remains in custody.

“Brandishing any kind of firearm in a public place is an incredibly serious offence and will always be met with a swift and robust response.

“I realise that incidents like this can cause a great deal of alarm in the community but this was an isolated incident which we reacted quickly to and a suspect is now in custody. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident

“This was excellent teamwork not only within our own force but also with another force to move quickly to arrest this man.

“Had it not been for the swift coordinated response, we may never have been able to speak to the man as part of our investigation.

“A lot of people will have been in the area when this alleged incident happened and while our enquiries are ongoing we’re appealing for any witnesses who haven’t yet come forward to please get in touch with us. We also want to hear from any drivers who may have recorded dash-cam footage of the incident.”
