The incident happened on Wednesday 28 April.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said:
‘Today ( Wednesday 28 April ) our team attended a report of a tree on fire, within the grounds of Wollaton Hall – the Home of Batman. Both our fire engine and welfare unit attended with 7 firefighters in total.
‘We discovered a deep seated fire within the trunk of a fallen 300 year old Birch Tree.
‘Although we could stop the fire spreading to the nearby wooded area, we were unable to get deep in to the trunk.
‘Working jointly with an officer from Nottingham City Council and a supporting team, we were able to establish a fire break, using chainsaws and heavy plant machinery.
‘We’d like to offer a huge thanks to the team from Wollaton Hall and Nottingham City Council, they were able to resolve this incident with our support.
‘Wollaton Hall and City council had a brilliant plan and response to this incident, we are contacting them privately to offer our thanks.’
