Woman found dead after flat fire in Beeston

An investigation is underway after a woman was pronounced dead following a fire at a flat which broke out yesterday.

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire on the ground floor of a building in Waterloo Road, Beeston at around 1pm yesterday (Friday 30 July 2021).

Fire crews tackled the blaze and contained it to the first floor of the building.

However, a woman, who is believed to have been the only person inside the flat, was found and pronounced dead at the scene.

Her family has been informed.

An joint investigation is now taking place between police and fire services to establish the circumstances around the incident.Detective Sergeant Julian Eminson-Ferry, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We are continuing our investigations into the circumstances which has led to this woman’s death and are working closely with our partners in the fire service to establish the cause of the fire.

“Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this very difficult time. No one else was injured as a result of the fire, although surrounding flats were evacuated at the time it was alight.

“We would urge anyone with information to get in touch on 101, quoting incident 321 of 30 June 2021.”
