Police say that on 8 October an equestrian property was the targeted by thieves, they are are urging all horse and livery yard owners to remain vigilant.
An investigation is now ongoing.
Police issued the following advice:
· Check CCTV regularly when not on site, display CCTV signage to deter criminals….if you do not have CCTV or security cameras on site consider investing in these as they help us to identify potential suspects and vehicles used
· Consider security marking with visual deterrents like Datatag, fitting an immobiliser if your horsebox doesn’t already have one and external wheel locks on trailers, steering wheel locks on horseboxes and caravans, a tracker fitted to your property will also assist us if your items are stolen
· Have recent photographic records of your valuable items including horses, tack, vehicles and anything else stored on your yard including any serial numbers, registration plates and vehicle identification numbers (for a guide on where to find these use TER – The Equipment Register | Plant and equipment identification) and check your insurance is up to date
· Check before you buy! Trailers and farm/plant equipment can be checked if stolen using The Equipment Register as above or horseboxes via the DVLA, only purchase from reputable dealerships
The rural location of equestrian property often leaves it more accessible to thieves, we encourage you to invest in security measures which may deter criminals or assist us in locating items which are stolen and always report suspicious activity online via our website or via calling 101, if a crime is in progress dial 999
