A suspected burglar was tracked to a Nottinghamshire back garden by a police dog and arrested.
Officers were called to a commercial premises in Outram Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, shortly before 1.40am on Monday 26 January when a break-in was reported.
PD Santo was brought in to support response officers with a search of the area, and soon tracked a suspect through the darkness to the garden of a property in nearby Brown Avenue.
A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession of cannabis.
Santo, a Belgian Malinois, qualified as a police dog in October and made an immediate impact when he detained four hiding suspects on his first shift.
Last month, he also sniffed out another suspect who had left the scene of a road traffic collision.
Sergeant Nick Dachtler, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Santo has made an impressive start to his policing career and is really thriving in partnership with his experienced handler.
“As in other similar cases involving our general-purpose dogs, this suspect may have avoided arrest entirely without the involvement of a well-trained police dog.”
