Men who poured boiling water over victim jailed

Two men who scalded a man with boiling water during a prolonged attack have been jailed.

Blu Wright and Tegan Hawley subjected their victim to an assault that lasted for nearly two hours.

The man had been spending time with Wright and Hawley at an address in Eastwood when they suddenly attacked him.

Motivated by financial gain, the man and woman proceeded to hit him with whatever objects they could get their hands on.

While continuously raining blows down on him with a pole, a speaker and a vase, the pair repeatedly punched him in the face too.

Not content with that, Wright and Hawley also poured boiling water over their victim – all the while demanding that he give them money.

The sustained attack – on 3 June last year – left the man with a fractured eye socket, multiple facial injuries, and burns to his arm as well.

An investigation into the assault was duly launched, which resulted in Wright, 30, and Hawley, 37, being identified as the pair responsible.

The duo went on to plead guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent during a court appearance last November.

Wright also admitted to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray, following a separate attack on another man in Derbyshire back in April 2022.

On Thursday (19 March), a sentencing hearing took place at Nottingham Crown Court for Wright, of Comet Drive, Eastwood, and Hawley, of Cromford Road, Langley Mill, Derbyshire.
Wright was jailed for eight years and nine months, while Hawley was sentenced to four and a half years behind bars.

Detective Constable Adam Evans, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Blu Wright and Tegan Hawley subjected their victim to a terrifying ordeal that lasted nearly two hours.

“The duo worked in tandem to inflict a series of painful blows on the man, before pouring boiling water on him too.

“Both of them should be disgusted by their disgraceful behaviour, which left a man in hospital with fractures and burns.

“We’re pleased to see Wright and Hawley have now been locked up for their actions, and we hope these sentences provide the victim with some closure.”
