Traffic cones installed near Nottingham Forest facilities after parking complaints

Nottingham Forest has installed traffic cones on Gresham Close in West Bridgford as part of a trial aimed at reducing inconsiderate parking linked to activity at the club’s training facilities.

The move follows concerns raised by residents about vehicle traffic and parking on the road, including issues around access for local people and emergency vehicles.

A councillor who has been working with residents and the club said the cones had now been put in place by Nottingham Forest Football Club following approval from Nottinghamshire County Council’s highways team. The measure is intended to discourage parking on both sides of the street and help maintain safer access.

In a letter sent to residents, Nottingham Forest said it had been in consultation with Councillor Hari Om and a local resident after concerns were raised about parking linked to club activity.

The club said it had “listened carefully” to the concerns and had been working over recent weeks to introduce measures aimed at improving the situation.

The letter said: “Following discussions with Councillor Om and the resident, we have agreed to introduce traffic cones along one side of the road.

“This is intended to provide a clear physical deterrent to discourage parking on both sides of the street and help maintain safe access for residents.”

The club said the cones would be deployed shortly, subject to delivery. They have since been installed on Gresham Close as part of a short trial.

Nottingham Forest also outlined a wider package of steps it said had been taken to address the issue. These include ongoing communication with academy users, including staff, players and parents, to reinforce expectations that vehicles should be parked within the training ground wherever possible.

The club said it had also issued guidance on considerate parking, including the need to park on one side of the road only where on-street parking is unavoidable.

Security staff have been briefed to engage with people arriving on foot and encourage them to bring vehicles on site where space is available. The club said it was also maximising the use of available on-site parking, including wider use of stadium parking where appropriate.

The letter added that Nottingham Forest would continue direct engagement where concerns have been raised, including efforts to identify and challenge repeated instances of inconsiderate parking.

The club said it would also continue working with Via East Midlands and Nottinghamshire County Council on longer-term options, including possible extensions to parking restrictions, subject to formal consultation.

However, Nottingham Forest said it does not have jurisdiction to enforce parking outside its premises.

The club said: “Whilst we are committed to doing everything reasonably within our control, it is important to note that the club does not have jurisdiction to enforce parking outside of its premises.

“As such, our approach is focused on communication, behavioural change, and working collaboratively with partners and the local community.”

Councillor Om said the installation of the cones was a positive step and followed constructive engagement between residents, the club and partner organisations.

He said he had also launched a petition calling on Nottinghamshire County Council to fund extra parking enforcement officers across the area, so wider parking concerns affecting residents could be tackled more effectively.

The councillor added that he would continue working with residents, Nottingham Forest and partner organisations to monitor the situation and press for further improvements where needed.
