Several tram services are cancelled during this morning’s rush hour, while Nottingham City Transport continues to warn of severe delays and short-notice cancellations because of congestion around the Maid Marian Way demolition works.
Nottingham Express Transit has confirmed fourteen cancelled departures from Hucknall, Toton Lane, Phoenix Park and Clifton South this morning, although trams are operating to all stops.
For motorists, the overnight closure of the A52 Queens Drive Flyover was scheduled to end at 06:00. A new phase of National Highways works begins tonight, with lane closures on Queens Drive near the Park and Ride site.
In West Bridgford, Gordon Road remains closed for gas-main replacement works, while today is the scheduled final day of the current Rectory Road restrictions.
There are also continuing diversions on Nuthall Road, Arnold High Street and several routes through Nottingham city centre.
Roads and motorways
No major new collision or emergency closure affecting Nottinghamshire’s M1, A1, A46 or A52 has been confirmed in the available early reports.
The main confirmed restrictions are planned roadworks around Clifton Bridge, Wheatcroft and Nottingham city centre.

A52 Clifton Bridge – new restrictions tonight
The overnight closure of the A52 Queens Drive Flyover was scheduled to finish at 06:00 this morning.
The closure formed part of National Highways’ high-mast lighting maintenance programme.
The works now move to a new location.
From tonight, Friday 9 October, until Tuesday 13 October, one lane of Queens Drive alongside the Park and Ride site will close overnight between 20:00 and 06:00.
These restrictions are part of the wider A52 Clifton Bridge and Silverdale programme which began on Monday.
The previous closure of the A453 northbound-to-A52 westbound link, including the Silverdale Island slip road, was scheduled to finish earlier this week and should not be carried forward as a current closure.
A52 Wheatcroft
Lane restrictions remain around Wheatcroft junction, affecting the A52 eastbound between the A606 and A6011.
The current phase of traffic management has been scheduled through today, Friday 9 October.
The restrictions are associated with the wider Nottingham Knight and Wheatcroft junction improvement programme.
Drivers travelling between Gamston, Ruddington, West Bridgford and the A46 should allow additional time.
Maid Marian Way – severe congestion warnings continue
The contraflow around Maid Marian Way and Broad Marsh remains in place for demolition of the former NCP car park.
Traffic continues to operate one lane in each direction on the northbound side of Maid Marian Way, with temporary traffic signals at the junction.
Nottingham City Transport continues to carry a network-wide warning that the demolition works have caused severe congestion across Nottingham city centre and surrounding roads.
The operator says all services are experiencing severe delays and short-notice cancellations.
This is an ongoing service warning rather than a confirmed delay affecting every individual journey at 06:07.
trentbarton also warns that the four-way temporary traffic lights will cause delays.
Its inbound St Nicholas Church stop remains closed during this phase of the works.
Trams – ten departures cancelled this morning
NET’s latest service update, issued at 06:00, confirms that trams are operating to all stops today, but several departures have been cancelled.
The affected departures are:
08:15, 09:00 from Hucknall.
07:08, 07:53 from Toton Lane.
07:10, 07:48, 08:18, 08:33, 08:55 from Phoenix Park.
06:17, 07:22, 07:37, 08:00, 08:37 from Clifton South.
‘Trams will running approximatly 7 minutes before and after these times, except for the 06:17 from Clifton South which will be at 06:32.
‘We have a higher-than-usual number of trams undergoing repair. Apologies for any delays to your journey.’
NET says alternative trams are scheduled to depart approximately seven minutes before and after these times.
Passengers using these routes during the morning peak should therefore expect longer waits than usual.
QMC tram lift
NET also confirms that the A52/Science Road lift at Queen’s Medical Centre remains out of order.
The QMC tram platform lift is operational, as is the Station Street lift at Nottingham railway station.
Nottingham buses – Maid Marian Way diversions
The major city-centre bus diversions introduced to avoid the Maid Marian Way demolition area remain in place.
Orange 34/C
Orange 34/C services enter the city from Canning Circus along Talbot Street, continuing to NTU City Campus before terminating on Milton Street alongside Victoria Centre.
Outbound journeys towards University Park begin from the Orange 35 and 36 stops on Milton Street.
The services do not serve their usual stops on Maid Marian Way, Broad Marsh, Canal Street or Cranbrook Street.
Turquoise 77/C, 78/A/B and 79/B
Turquoise services enter the city along Talbot Street before continuing via Shakespeare Street and North Church Street to Burton Street alongside The Cornerhouse.
Outbound journeys towards Strelley and Bulwell begin from Burton Street stop T7.
The services do not serve Maid Marian Way, Broad Marsh, George Street, Fletcher Gate or Victoria Centre.
NCT says these arrangements will remain throughout the demolition works.
West Bridgford – Gordon Road closure continues
Gas-main replacement works continue on Gordon Road in West Bridgford.
The closure began on Monday 5 October and is scheduled to remain in place until Friday 16 October, with bus diversions listed through 17 October.
NCT Green 5/A, 6 and 12/C/E towards Nottingham are affected.
Green 5/A services divert from Brockley Road via Davies Road and Radcliffe Road to Trent Bridge.
Green 6 services use Stamford Road, Melton Road, Musters Road, Rectory Road and Central Avenue.
Green 12/C/E services remain on Radcliffe Road towards Trent Bridge rather than using Gordon Road.
Several stops towards Nottingham cannot be served, depending on the route.
Trentbarton services
Trentbarton’s mainline, the cotgrave and rushcliffe villager are also affected.
Towards Nottingham, these services cannot serve stops between Brockley Road and the Cricket Ground, including Central Avenue, Co-op and Hound Road.
Outbound journeys continue to serve Central Avenue.
All Radcliffe Road stops towards Nottingham remain served.
Arnold – final day of daytime diversions
Today is the scheduled final day of the current works on Arnold High Street.
Between 09:30 and 15:30, buses are subject to diversions affecting NCT 25, 53, 54, 55, 56, 58, 79 and 87.
The Arnold High Street stop behind ASDA will not be served during the restrictions.
Passengers can use the alternative stop further along High Street near High Street Avenue for services 25, 53, 54, 55 and 58, or Arnold Front Street for the 56.
Lime 56 towards Nottingham also misses Croft Road and Ravenswood Road, diverting via Coppice Road.
NCT has reported early finishes on previous days, but the published programme still includes today.
Nuthall Road – overnight resurfacing
Phase two of the resurfacing programme on Nuthall Road continues tonight.
The restrictions operate between 19:00 and 06:00 on weekday nights until Wednesday 14 October.
Yellow 71/B towards Bulwell diverts via Bagnall Road.
Turquoise 79/B services towards Bulwell and Arnold divert via Melbourne Road, Aspley Lane and Broxtowe Lane.
The reverse diversion operates towards Nottingham, with no stops served along the diversion.
Trentbarton’s rainbow one is also affected by the overnight works.
Other continuing bus disruption
Roadworks on Derby Road continue to affect NCT 18, Orange 34/C, 35/A/B, 36 and University hopper 903.
The Triumph Road stop towards Nottingham remains closed.
At Ryehill Street, the stop towards Trent Bridge remains closed for Navy, Green and Pathfinder 90 services. Passengers are directed to Victoria Embankment.
Green 11/C towards Lady Bay remains diverted because of works at the Arkwright Street/Bathley Street junction. The diversion continues until Friday 16 October.
Blue 40A continues to terminate at the Radiotherapy stop at City Hospital because Linden Way remains closed.
Gas works on Queens Road also continue to affect NCT 18/A/B, with the Salisbury Street stop towards Beeston and Stapleford unavailable.
Lowdham Roundabout
Long-term construction continues at Lowdham Roundabout as part of the A614/A6097 improvement programme.
NCT says the works are expected to last around 13 months and could cause delays to Pathfinder 26.
East Bridgford
Junction improvements continue at Kirk Hill on the A6097, affecting trentbarton’s rushcliffe villager.
The long-term works began in August and are expected to continue for around 12 months.
Rail – altered services and reduced EMR timetable
There are several planned engineering alterations affecting East Midlands Railway today.
No major new unplanned incident affecting Nottingham station has been confirmed in the available early reports.
Liverpool to Norwich – morning alteration
The 06:49 Liverpool Lime Street to Norwich service is amended today because of engineering work between Stockport and Chesterfield.
The train will instead start from Warrington Central at 07:17.
A replacement bus operates between Widnes and Warrington Central, while passengers travelling between Liverpool Lime Street and Widnes can use alternative trains at no additional cost.
This is the final scheduled day of the current alteration.
Nottingham to Liverpool
The 05:21 Nottingham to Liverpool Lime Street service was also subject to an earlier departure this morning because of engineering work.
The current programme, which has affected early departures between Nottingham and Liverpool, is scheduled to finish today.
EMR Intercity – reduced timetable continues
East Midlands Railway’s temporary reduced Intercity timetable remains in place.
The changes affect services between Nottingham, Derby, Sheffield and London St Pancras.
National Rail says the reduced timetable is intended to improve reliability while the operator addresses train performance problems.
Cancelled weekday services have been removed from journey planners through Friday 16 October.
From Monday 19 October, EMR plans to increase its Intercity operation from 92% to 96% of the full planned timetable.
For Nottingham, this includes reinstating the 13:50 and 18:10 departures to London St Pancras, together with several services in the opposite direction.
Late-night London services
Further engineering alterations affect late-night and early-morning EMR services between London St Pancras, Derby and Sheffield.
The 23:04 London St Pancras to Derby service is scheduled to depart Luton Airport Parkway earlier than usual tonight, with an amended departure from Leicester at 01:33.
Passengers travelling late should check their individual journeys.
Looking ahead – weekend disruption
Southwell – Church Street closes
Church Street in Southwell will close on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October, between 08:00 and 17:00 each day, for sewer repairs.
Pathfinder 26 will divert via The Ropewalk, Halam Road, Allenby Road and Westgate.
Several stops in the town centre and Easthorpe area will not be served.
Rail – weekend engineering works
There are several significant alterations planned for Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October, replacement buses will operate between Sleaford and Boston, affecting Nottingham–Skegness journeys.
Engineering works will also affect services between Peterborough and Ely on both days, including EMR services between Nottingham and Norwich.
On Sunday 11 October, replacement buses are scheduled to operate on some morning services between Nottingham and Grantham/Boston.
A52 Derby Road – new daytime restrictions next week
A new phase of National Highways works begins on Monday 12 October.
Between Monday and Wednesday, 08:00 to 17:00, a lane of the A52 Derby Road eastbound will close between the University of Nottingham north entrance bus stop and QMC Roundabout.
The University North Entrance stop UN14 will close while new pedestrian guardrails are installed.
Trentbarton says its i4 services will be unable to use the stop, with passengers directed to Lenton Hall or the QMC main entrance.
Long Eaton – overnight closures
From Monday 12 October, Tamworth Road at Harrington Bridge in Long Eaton will be closed overnight between 22:00 and 06:00 on working nights until Friday 23 October.
Trentbarton my15 and skylink Nottingham services will be affected.
Separate overnight resurfacing works on Ashby Road at Long Whatton will affect selected skylink Nottingham journeys from 12 to 15 October.
