Life sentence for Nottinghamshire prisoner who stabbed fellow inmate

A prisoner will spend a further 15 years behind bars after attacking a fellow inmate.
Christopher Scott was already serving a sentence when he fashioned a blade and assaulted another man with it.

His victim sustained a substantial slash wound to his face and neck after Scott came at him with the improvised weapon.

The attack took place within HMP Lowdham Grange on 12 August last year, with Scott identified as the perpetrator soon after.

Nottinghamshire Police’s Crime in Prison Investigations Team picked up the resulting investigation in the months that followed.

Forty-six-year-old Scott was duly charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent – something he admitted to in court on 16 July.

Scott, now of HMP Milton Keynes, returned to Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday (13 October), where he received a life sentence.

He must serve a minimum term of 15 years behind bars as part of this before he is eligible to apply for parole.

Inspector Kerry Hall, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“It really should go without saying, but what Scott did was completely unacceptable and has no place in our society.

“We were therefore extremely pleased to see him receive this lengthy, extended spell in custody – away from the public – for this mindlessly violent act.

“The life sentence passed to Scott summed up the seriousness and dangerousness of his crime, with our Crime in Prison Investigations Team playing a big role in securing this punishment.

“This was a great piece of work and a fantastic result that should serve as a reminder that we will not tolerate crime – whether it’s out in the community or in a prison setting.”
