A Christmas lights display at a Gamston home will return this month, with its organiser hoping to beat last year’s fundraising total of more than £12,000 for the RSPCA Radcliffe Animal Centre.
Santa Claus will perform the grand switch-on at 4 Sandale Close on Sunday 22 November from 5pm. His transport for this year’s arrival is being kept a surprise.
The organiser has been creating the display for 14 years, with this year marking the 11th year of fundraising for the animal centre.
Visitors can watch an animated light show lasting nearly 15 minutes, while the switch-on event will include a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses. For the first time, refreshments from Ginger Blue will be available from 4.30pm.
The organiser said the centre is independently funded, costs more than £800,000 a year to run and receives no financial aid from the RSPCA National Society. Donations will help fund the care of animals and the running of the centre.
Explaining why the display returns each year, the organiser said: “It’s because I love doing it and get very excited to see the children’s faces light up and especially when they point at the different lights and effects.”
Anyone unable to attend the switch-on can visit the display daily from 4pm to 9pm until 1 January.
Donations can be placed in the red collection box outside the house or made through JustGiving using the QR code on the noticeboard, with Gift Aid available.
Children visiting the display receive a lollipop, with a different treat planned for switch-on night.
Santa’s Grotto will also open on 4, 5, 11, 12, 18 and 19 December, from 5pm to 8pm.
A donation is requested per family or child, and each child will receive a gift. Visitors are welcome to take their own photographs.
There is no need to book, but all children must be accompanied by an adult. All times are subject to change.
