The incident was reported this morning.
East Midlands Railways said:
‘We are sad to report that a person has been hit by a train.
‘This has occurred between Stoke on trent and Crewe and is disrupting our trains on the Newark Castle/ Derby/ Crewe route.
‘At present emergency services are on site to manage the incident.’
‘Trains running through the area in both directions cannot run between Stoke on trent and Crewe.
‘Trains running in the Crewe direction will terminate at Stoke on Trent.
‘Trains running in the Derby direction will start at Stoke on Trent.
‘Buses will replace trains between Stoke on trent and Crewe.
‘At present we are expecting the line to re-open in the next hour. As soon as the line is open again, our priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. We expect our advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 12:00.’
