A46 in Notts to be closed ‘for several hours’ after collision between car and horse box

The A46 in Nottinghamshire is closed in both directions between the A52 Saxondale roundabout and the A606 Melton Road junction near Widmerpool.

Nottinghamshire Police said:

‘Officers have closed the A46 in both directions following a serious collision near Owthorpe earlier this afternoon.

Nottinghamshire Police were called just before 2pm on Saturday 13 June to a report of the collision between a car and a horse box close to the Owthorpe exit. Officers remain at the scene alongside colleagues from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue.

The road remains closed in both directions between the A606 Melton Road junction and the A52 Saxondale Island following the collision.

The extent of the injuries of those involved are not yet known.’

Highways England said:

‘This is due to a serious collision involving several vehicles near Owthorpe.

Nottinghamshire Police is on scene along with East Midlands Ambulance Service and Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue. The road is expected to be closed for several hours.

‘Diversions are in operation:

‘Southbound traffic at the Saxondale roundabout with the A52 take the third exit and head west on the A52 towards Nottingham. Follow the A52 around Nottingham to the Nottingham Knight roundabout with the A60. Take the first exit on to the A60 southbound. Remain on the A60 south to Rempstone. At the junction with the A6006 turn left and head east on the A6006 to re-join the A46 at the Dalby junction.

‘Northbound traffic at the Dalby junction with the A6006 exit and at the end of the slip-road turn right to join the A6006 westbound. Continue west on the A6006 to Rempstone and turn right at the junction with the A60. Head north on the A60 towards Nottingham. At the Nottingham Knight roundabout take the third exit on to the A52 eastbound. Follow the A52 around Nottingham and continue east to re-join the A46 at the Saxondale roundabout.

‘For traffic approaching the closures, you are advised to expect disruption with extra journey time and you may wish to re-route or delay your journey.’

AA Roadwatch reports:

‘Road closed due to accident, a car and a van involved on A46 both ways from Owthorpe Road to A606 Melton Road. The Northbound carriageway has been closed again for air ambulance and recovery.’
