The A50 is closed eastbound between the A6 (Thurston) and the B6540 (Cavendish Bridge) due to a collision.
Derbyshire Police lead the response to the ongoing incident and have closed the carriageway to allow them to work at scene.
Police said:
‘The A50 is closed eastbound towards the motorway between J2 A6 Thulston and J1 B6540 Sawley. There has been a serious collision and we expect the road to be closed for a number of hours. ‘
National Highways have resources in attendance to assist with traffic management.
Diversion Route
Road users are advised to follow the solid diamond diversion symbol on road signs
- Take the slip road for the A6 Alvaston Bypass and continue for 4.6km onto the A5111.
- Follow the A5111 until it links up with the A52 eastbound.
- Continue on the A52 for approximately 8.0km to M1 Junction 25.
- At the junction take the fifth exit onto the M1 southbound
Delays are likely on approach to the closure and diversion routes.
AA Roadwatch reports:
‘Road closed and queueing traffic due to serious crash on A50 Eastbound from J2 A6 (Derby / Alvaston) to J1 B6540 Tamworth Road (Long Eaton).
‘Congestion to delays through Cavendish Bridge as traffic diverts around the closure.’
