A52 Clifton Bridge: Additional lane reopened on schedule this morning

The lane opened at 6 am.

The lane into Nottingham opened this morning Thursday 14 October.

National Highways ( formerly Highways England ) said today:

‘This morning we opened an additional Westbound lane into Nottingham on the A52 Clifton Bridge.

‘If you’re travelling this way, we’d encourage you to leave additional time for your journey so you can familiarise yourself with the road layout.’

The additional westbound lane into Nottingham, should allow traffic entering Nottingham to travel more freely.

‘We’d encourage motorists to leave additional time for their journeys on Thursday morning so people can familiarise themselves with the road layout.

‘We’re aiming to reopen the fourth and final eastbound lane (including the second Queens Drive slip road lane) in the coming weeks.

‘We’d like to thank drivers for their patience whilst we complete the final stages of our repair programme.’

Parts of Nottingham were brought to a standstill in February 2020 when engineers found parts of the almost 50-year-old bridge had corroded.

The busy A52 Clifton Boulevard, which carries tens of thousands of vehicles every day, was then closed for vital works.

Engineers have been on-site since the corrosion was found, with traffic disruption causing queues and delays across the city.

Highways England says the closure of lanes has opened the door to other maintenance work on the bridge, which it expects will prevent disruption in the future.
