The lane was due to reopen on Monday 9 November.
Highways England said:
‘Good news. The repair work has progressed and as a result, we have tonight opened a second lane on the eastbound carriageway.
‘The work will continue to resolve the remaining issues.’
In an update last week it was announced that work may not completely finish until Autumn 2021.
Highways England’s Midlands regional director, Catherine Brookes, said:
‘Although one lane is expected to reopen next week ( now today Sunday 8 November),
“Ongoing investigations mean the scope of work has increased as we seek to ensure further maintenance isn’t required anytime soon.
“This means work is likely to continue on the bridge into Autumn 2021, although we’ll do all we can to complete it sooner.
“Our ambition is to open a further lane in the coming months and we’ll aim to restore the original traffic layout with all lanes back open to drivers as soon as we can.
“We appreciate these roadworks are disruptive and thank everyone affected for their patience.”
