A collision and lorry fire led to the M1 at J23 being closed in both directions for most of the afternoon.

Both carriageways stopped for safety and structural checks to the bridge.
Luckily there were no injuries.

There was a heavy goods vehicle on fire, the resultant diesel spillage, barrier damage to repair and bridge checks to be done before police and partners could reopen the motorway.
The latest update is that the motorway is open northbound from J23 and J23a. ( 7 pm )
