Alex O’Dowd to continue at Nottingham Rugby

Nottingham Rugby is delighted to announce that Alex O’Dowd will continue as Backs Coach for the 2018/19 season, where he will also take on the vital role of Head of Rugby at NTU.

Alex has been part of the Green and Whites’ coaching team for the past two seasons and is looking forward to building on the strong foundations he has created in the back line.

Alex said: “I am thrilled to have committed to the Green and Whites for the next two years. My family are settled in Nottingham and the strong sense of community the players, fans and staff have created here is something I wanted to continue to be a part of.

“It’s a really exciting time for the club, we have a young talented group with a lot to prove, while retaining some experienced familiar faces.

“I have really enjoyed the last two seasons and I’m looking forward to working with the lads in training again as we prepare for our pre-season fixtures.”

Alex will also increase his role at NTU, taking on the Head of Rugby at NTU from Fowkes alongside his existing Head Coach Role. He said: “The NTU role is integral to the success of both the Green and Whites and University Programme.

“NTU’s first team will once again be competing in the BUCS Super League, the top division in university rugby. Our team enjoyed a fantastic finish to the league and I hope that we can build on the momentum from last year.

“From the students’ perspective, they have the opportunity to play professional rugby in the Championship and BUCS Super League while they study. Whether they play for Nottingham Rugby or NTU, the players are coached to the same high standard which ultimately could lead them to a career in the sport.

“It’s a highly exciting, successful programme that I feel is vital to the development of both teams.”

Neil Fowkes is pleased to have his coaching team finalised for the new season, he said: “I’m delighted to have Alex onboard, continuity is key and Alex has a strong relationship with the whole team which is vital for success in this division.

“We have a good balance of new faces and returning team members and I am confident that Alex and Kyri will enhance the already fantastic attitude of the team, making us a force to be reckoned with in the Championship.”

Fowkes is pleased that the Green and Whites’ relationship with Nottingham Trent University will continue to flourish.

“Our link with NTU is unique to Championship rugby and is a fine example of the community ethos the club has, and I am delighted that Alex will be developing this relationship further,” added Neil.
